What are Hormone Tests?
These hormone tests provide important information for diagnosing, treating and monitoring reproductive health problems. However, each individual's situation is different and hormone levels may vary. Therefore, test results should always be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Dear Mother and Father Candidates;
Hormone Tests
Hormone tests related to reproductive health are tests performed to evaluate the functioning of the reproductive system and understand the causes of reproductive problems. These tests can help monitor sexual development, ovulation, spermatogenesis (sperm production), ovarian function, hormone levels during pregnancy, and other reproductive processes. Here are some hormone tests frequently used in reproductive health:
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Tests: These hormones regulate ovarian function and ovulation. FSH and LH levels are used to evaluate ovarian reserve and diagnose conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome.
- Estradiol Test: Estradiol is the most active form of estrogen and is involved in ovarian function. Estradiol levels are used to track ovulation and assess ovarian health.
- Progesterone Test: Progesterone is a hormone secreted after ovulation and plays an important role in preparing the inner layer of the uterus (endometrium) for pregnancy. This test is used to determine whether ovulation has occurred and to monitor pregnancy.
- Testosterone Test: Testosterone is the main male sex hormone associated with sperm production and sexual functions in men. It is also found in low levels in women and has an effect on reproductive health.
- Prolactin Test: While prolactin stimulates milk production, high levels can inhibit ovulation. This test is used to diagnose conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, amenorrhea (lack of a menstrual period), and galactorrhea (lack of milk production).
- Thyroid Function Tests: Thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4) have a significant impact on reproductive health. Thyroid hormone imbalances can lead to ovulation disorders and infertility.
- HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) Test: HCG is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is used in pregnancy tests and monitoring the pregnancy process.
